Attic Insulation
Attic Insulation That Pays for Itself
Most Delaware homes lose up to 40% of heating and cooling through the attic. Blown-in insulation fixes that in a few hours. $200+ in annual savings, usually done in one visit.
Your attic is costing you more than you think
The U.S. Department of Energy reports that up to 40% of a home’s heating and cooling loss happens through the attic and roof area when insulation doesn’t meet modern energy codes. About 90% of homes fall short.
That’s not a small problem. That’s hundreds of dollars a year going straight through your ceiling.
Blown-in insulation is the fastest, most cost-effective way to bring your attic up to code. We can usually do it in 2-4 hours. You’ll feel the difference the first time your HVAC cycles on after we’re done.
Insulation types we install
The right insulation depends on your attic’s current condition, ventilation, and what you’re trying to solve. We’ll recommend the best option after assessing your space.
Blown-In Fiberglass
The most common choice for attic top-offs. Lightweight, non-combustible, and settles into every gap and crevice. Won’t absorb moisture. Ideal for adding depth to existing insulation.
R-2.5 per inch · Non-combustible · Moisture resistantBlown-In Cellulose
Made from recycled paper treated with fire retardant. Denser than fiberglass, which means slightly better soundproofing and air sealing. Good for older homes with more gaps to fill.
R-3.5 per inch · Recycled content · Superior air sealingInsulation Removal + Replace
If your existing insulation is damaged, contaminated, or compacted beyond usefulness, we remove it first and start fresh. Old insulation doesn’t just underperform, it can trap moisture and harbor allergens.
Full removal · Debris cleanup · Fresh install to R-49What proper insulation does for your home
Cuts energy bills
When your attic is properly insulated, your HVAC system doesn’t have to work as hard. Most homeowners see $200+ in annual savings, sometimes significantly more depending on how under-insulated they were.
Eliminates hot and cold spots
That room that’s always too hot in summer or freezing in winter? Usually an insulation problem. Proper attic insulation creates consistent temperatures throughout your home.
Extends HVAC life
When your heating and cooling system isn’t running constantly to compensate for heat loss, it lasts longer. Less wear, fewer repairs, later replacement.
How it works
From assessment to savings
Attic Assessment
We check current insulation depth, material condition, and ventilation. About 30 minutes. We’ll tell you exactly where you stand vs. modern code (R-49).
Written Quote
Material, labor, target R-value, and estimated annual savings. You’ll know exactly what you’re getting and what it costs. No surprises.
Installation
Blown-in to proper depth, usually in 2-4 hours. If we’re combining with a roof replacement, it’s done the same day as part of the overall project.
Verification
We measure final depth, confirm R-value targets are met, and help you with federal tax credit documentation (up to 30% back).
Getting a new roof? Add insulation while we’re up there.
If you’re already getting a roof replacement, that’s the perfect time to top off your attic insulation. The roof is open, the crew is there, and we can coordinate both in the same visit.
You save on labor costs, reduce disruption, and get the full building-science benefit of a properly integrated system: new roof + proper ventilation + code-compliant insulation, all working together.
See our roofing services“They added insulation when they did our roof. Our energy bill dropped noticeably the first month. Should have done it years ago.”
“The upstairs bedrooms used to be unbearable in summer. After they topped off the insulation, the whole house is the same temperature. Wish I’d done it sooner.”
“Quick, clean, and I got the tax credit. The crew was in and out in about 3 hours. No mess in the house at all.”
Common questions
Attic Insulation FAQ
How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?
If you can see the tops of the ceiling joists when you look in your attic, you don’t have enough. Modern code calls for R-49 in our climate zone, which is about 16-20 inches of blown-in insulation. Most homes we inspect have 6-10 inches. 6 things to know about attic insulation →
How much does attic insulation cost?
Cost depends on your attic’s square footage, current insulation depth, and whether removal is needed. We give you a detailed written quote after the assessment. The federal tax credit (up to 30%, max $1,200/year) brings the effective cost down significantly.
What’s the difference between blown-in fiberglass and cellulose?
Both are effective. Fiberglass is lighter, non-combustible, and won’t absorb moisture (R-2.5/inch). Cellulose is denser, provides better air sealing, and is made from recycled materials (R-3.5/inch). We recommend cellulose for older homes with more gaps, fiberglass for standard top-offs.
What R-value should my attic insulation be?
For Delaware and the surrounding area (DOE Climate Zone 4), the recommended R-value is R-49 to R-60. That translates to roughly 16-20 inches of blown-in insulation. Most homes we see are well below that.
How long does installation take?
Most attic insulation jobs take 2-4 hours. If we’re combining it with a roof replacement, it’s done the same day. Either way, you can stay in your home the entire time.
Will insulation help with ice dams?
Insulation is part of the solution, but proper ventilation is equally important. Ice dams form when heat escapes through the attic and melts snow on the roof unevenly. We address both insulation and ventilation together. Learn about ice and water shield →
Is there a federal tax credit for insulation?
Yes. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) covers up to 30% of insulation costs, with a maximum of $1,200 per year. This applies to both material and labor. We provide the documentation you need for your tax return. More on energy-efficient home improvements →
